Control Bionics is working with doctors and therapists within the VA healthcare system to provide immediate service to veterans with quadriplegia, including those also with loss of speech.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs provides comprehensive support for veterans with quadriplegia and loss of speech due to service-related injuries and diseases. The VA estimates that among veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns alone, more than 120,000 suffer from service-related traumatic brain injuries (TBI). More than 13,000 veterans have sustained acute spinal cord injuries (SCI) as of January 2009.

The US ALS Association suggests military veterans have a significantly higher risk of developing ALS - regardless of service branch - than those who have not served (ALSA Fact Sheet). The US VA has approved compensation for qualified veterans with ALS as a Presumptive Compensable Illness. The VA outlines its considerations in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in Veterans: Review of the Scientific Literature
