Control Bionics and Help ALS Speak, a 501 (c)3 Organization dedicated to helping people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), recently partnered to bring awareness and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) solutions to people living with ALS. Started by Mike Genette, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2014, Help ALS Speak aims to help those diagnosed with ALS make informed decisions about their care when it comes to loss of speech.
ALS.org explains that changes in speech are common with ALS and progress over time and that learning about and implementing timely strategies and proactive steps will enable users to maintain optimal communication. When a users’ speech doesn’t meet all communication needs throughout the day, it’s recommended to look into speech generating devices for AAC. Help ALS Speak learned about the NeuroNode Trilogy from Control Bionics and wanted to use their platform to help people living with ALS learn about this device.
Control Bionics and Help ALS Speak have aligned missions: to help people living with communication difficulties have a voice. Together, our organizations can spread awareness about loss of speech with ALS, and help users access a communication device to regain their voice. “Simply put, the ability to speak through artificial means would have made a significant difference in their lives.
