Clinical Application and Case Studies: Fine-Tuning Eye Tracking and iPadOS
Irisbond, a manufacturer of eye gaze technology, believes that customization is the key to an optimal experience. Through real-world user stories, we will analyze the journey of both emerging communicators and independent eye gaze users. We will show how to fine-tune eye tracking and iPadOS settings to accommodate evolving needs, such as appropriate calibration for successful use and optimizing visual cues for best success. Finally, we will share strategies to move beyond AAC apps, unlocking mainstream tools for leisure, learning, and independent living.

Customizing Eye Gaze After Eye Health Changes
In this session, we will review multiple customizations created by Bridging Voice that are designed to mitigate the impact of changes in eye health. All customizations have been implemented with clients with ALS and have had positive outcomes. In fact, recent research conducted by Bridging Voice has demonstrated functional, measurable success with these customizations, ensuring people with ALS maintain or regain eye gaze access to communication following changes related to eye health.

Technical Foundations: Fine-Tuning Eye Tracking and iPadOS
What happens when advanced technology meets a complex user journey? Success depends on fine-tuning the interaction between a user’s eyes and their iPadOS device. This foundational session provides a technical deep dive into the integration of eye-tracking technology within the iPadOS ecosystem. Participants will learn the essential mechanics of hardware setup and the software configurations necessary for a reliable access method. The Missing Pieces of Eye Gaze Success: Eye Health
Eye health is not discussed in common AAC literature, graduate school training, and professional development. However, during a recent clinical study Bridging Voice found that 20% of ALS clients to its non-profit organization benefited from the implementation of eye health intervention. This session explores the impact of eye health on the successful use of eye gaze access with speech generating devices.

Using Eye Gaze for Communication and Learning: A Case Study
How do I teach eye gaze skills to a young child? Where do we start and what do we do next? If you have ever asked these questions, this session is for you.
Join us as our guest presenters discuss the journey of Dulce, a child with Cerebral Palsy, as she learned to use eye gaze as an access method for leisure, education, and communication. In this case study, we will view video interviews with Dulce and her father as well as hear directly from representatives of the eye gaze manufacturer. You will leave with new ideas and tools based on the successes and challenges faced by Dulce and her team.

Eye Gaze 101: Getting Started
Eye gaze as a way to access high tech AAC devices has come a long way since it was introduced. It is now available in a variety of communication devices and is generally funded along with the communication device itself.
Just because eye gaze is a more commonly used access method, it does not necessarily mean that clinicians, teachers, and family members feel comfortable using or teaching it.
This course is designed to present the basics about eye gaze technology, who can use it, and how to set it up. We will use demonstrations and case studies to help you feel more comfortable getting started with eye gaze!

Scanning 101: Getting Started
Scanning is an important access method for augmentative and alternative communication. Often viewed as a last resort, scanning can feel daunting to understand and teach. This course is designed to cover the basics about scanning, including the types of scanning, making selections in scanning (e.g., switches), and characteristics of individuals who use scanning for communication. A second session, Scanning 102, dives into how to facilitate accurate, purposeful switch use and teach scanning for communication. This session is available for ASHA and AOTA CEUs!

We will discuss ways to facilitate accurate, purposeful switch use and then move to key considerations for teaching the different types of scanning. Finally, we will discuss implications for switching from one scanning type to another. Join us for an hour filled with ideas for planning and implementing scanning.

Basic Editing for Grid 3
Grid 3 software is the communication software used Control Bionics NeuroNode Trilogy. The software provides many different communication pages that are a great place to start for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users. The next step? Customizing the communication pages so they are personalized for the individual user. This class will provide an overview of the editing menu, demonstrate how to edit buttons and pages, and show how to add and connect pages. Finally, we will explore the Settings menu and see what additional customizations can be made there.

Page Sets from Control Bionics
Come learn about three new page sets designed in the Grid 3 software for individuals who use Control Bionics communication devices. In this session, we will demonstrate the features and functions of the following page sets:
- 16-Location High Contrast Auditory Scanning
- 16-Location Auditory Scanning (Kids and Young Adults), and
- 16-Location Auditory Scanning (Adults).
In addition, we will discuss why these page sets were created, who they were designed for, and how they can be customized for individual users. Because of the specific nature of these page sets, no other AAC vocabularies or communication software will be referenced. While it is not necessary for the class, the page sets are available here.
