A Creative Collaboration for the Holidays

If you happened to see Control Bionics’ holiday card, you saw the wonderful artwork created by Moira. Here’s the card in case you missed it!

Control Bionics Holiday Card 2024 with artwork by Moira

The development of our holiday card this year was a joint effort between Moira’s team and Control Bionics. It demonstrates the powerful effect of creativity and teamwork in a young girl’s life.

The Back Story

Wendi McMillan is a speech-language pathologist in North Carolina who has been using ChatCrackers with her clients, including Moira. ChatCrackers is an AI application built on our Cosmos Connect platform. The main activities in ChatCrackers, storytelling and picture creation, provide lots of opportunities to use switches, like the NeuroNode, in a fun, engaging, and errorless way. The beauty of ChatCrackers is that it can be used out of the box or it can be customized.

Moira Takes Manhattan

Moira loves telling stories about (fictional) trips to New York City, including shopping at Tiffany’s, eating pretzels from a street vendor, and visiting the animals at a pet shop, using a custom-designed ChatCrackers activity called “Moira Takes Manhattan.”

Holiday Cards

In December, Moira and Wendi were talking about writing letters to Santa and family members. When Wendi introduced a picture-making ChatCrackers activity created for another of her students, they quickly realized that a Christmas version of the activity was just what they needed. That way, they could create Christmas cards/letters complete with Moira’s custom artwork.

Wendi turned to James Schorey, Control Bionics’ Chief Technology Officer and creator of ChatCrackers, and Caitlin Cassidy, Research Specialist, who quickly created a new activity. To make her Christmas card artwork, Moira selected the style of her artwork, the setting for the card, and multiple objects to be in the picture.

During the activity, Moira had the biggest smiles her team had seen in a long time. Here is her favorite picture of those she created, and several more because it is hard to choose just one!

Moira and her team could now use the images she made to create cards, add to letters, or create a photo album on her communication device.

At Control Bionics, we loved her work so much we featured it in our holiday email! Thank you Moira, Wendi, and Dania for collaborating with us to create new and exciting things!

Thank you Moira!

Moira’s mom, Dania Ermentrout, tells us, “With her device’s AI capabilities in ChatCrackers, Moira’s creativity knows no bounds. She can self-direct her own play, create and share her own stories, and express her imagination, her preferences, and her emotions in ways we never thought possible.”
