Communication in Rett Syndrome Webinar Series

August 10, 2022

Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 females and leads to severe impairments that affect nearly every aspect of life, such as the ability to speak, walk, eat, and breathe easily.

To help individuals with Rett Syndrome meet their full potential, The Rett Syndrome Communication Guidelines were developed to inform therapists, educators, and families on the assessment, intervention, and long-term management of communication.

WEBINAR SERIES

The International Rett Syndrome Foundation has developed three one-hour webinars to assist professionals in implementing the Rett Syndrome Communication Guidelines. Free to speech language pathologists and graduate students, these three webinars will provide introductory information on Rett Syndrome, how features of Rett impact communication, and best practices in assessment and intervention. Individuals who take all three courses and complete the brief post-webinar quiz for each course can earn certificates for up to three Professional Development hours.

Speech Language Pathologists who complete all three courses with their corresponding quizzes will be invited to join the private online forum for continuing professional mentorship. Hosted by the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, the online forum is led by experts in the field that will provide ongoing mentorship, resources, and education about communication in Rett Syndrome.

FLEXIBILITY IS KEY

With a spectrum of symptoms and degrees of severity, flexible communication options are key for users with Rett Syndrome. Keep the options open from the beginning with the NeuroNode Trilogy.

The NeuroNode Trilogy combines touch, eye control, and EMG/Spatial control for a faster and less fatiguing speech generating device. For individuals living with Rett Syndrome, the NeuroNode Trilogy’s three built-in access methods provide a customizable approach to communication, with flexibility that allows the user’s device to grow and change with them.
